“Stay with me, My love I hope you’ll always be” singing the words along with the song BUT sitting on a couch out in the mezzanine area. Not how I expected to experience this Phil Collins/Genesis Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra concert.
I started the concert in row H sitting next to my husband. The first song began and so did the light show! Swirling lights then red, blue, purple scanning up and down and then strobe lights. Started to feel a bit queasy so I closed my eyes. By the third song, I was using my program to shield my eyes. I felt the beginnings of a headache. Right before the fifth song, I got up and walked to the back. I was hoping that standing along the back wall under the balcony would shield the intensity of light but unfortunately no. I leaned against the wall and closed my eyes until intermission.
Then I made my decision, I would not be going back in for the rest of the show. I bought some ginger ale and potato chips (my doctor shared that chips stop nausea quickly and yes they do!) and found a cozy seat for the second half.
Trying to make the most of an unexpected predicament, I relaxed and listened to the music floating to my ears. The theme from Tarzan was playing “ You’ll be in my heart, you’ll be here in my heart always” and tears came to my eyes. I sang this to my son as a lullaby many years ago-oh what a sweet memory.
So first half -awful. The second half turned out much better than expected with a heart-touching moment. Glad music is about listening, not seeing. The second half lyrics brightened my night- not literally.

So sorry the lights ruined the first half of the show for you. With flashing lights and strobe lights you would think that shows would no longer use them or use them very sparingly. Glad the second half was better even though you seated outside of the concert area.

I am right there with you. I can’t believe more people aren’t sensitive to those lights. I am glad you were able to enjoy the second half albeit from the lobby.

I’m so glad the 2nd half was better. Bright lights have that effect on me too. I didn’t know about the medicinal properties of chips! Glad you could enjoy memories and the 2nd part of the show.
