Simply Being Outside Boosts My Soul

I came to you

depleted

drained.

I rest in your presence

mindful

open.

Your gentle warm breezes caringly brush my bangs to the side,

Your warming sunbeams lovingly kiss my forehead,

Your singing birds tenderly encourage my soul.

I rest in your presence

healed

restored.

I leave you

filled

fresh.

On Saturday morning, I woke in a down mood. I was feeling mopey and slow. The sun was out and the morning was warming up so I decided to do a short restorative yoga session on my deck. As I sat in my beginning pose, I felt my bangs tickling my forehead as the warm wind rustled them. The sun’s rays were warming up my face and arms. It felt like the sun was embracing me and its warmth was penetrating my bad mood. I had only been outside for a few moments and already nature was having an impact on me. As I moved through various poses, birds were twittering back and forth in lovely notes. I felt like they were singing to me. This also raised my spirits. After my 20 minutes outside, I felt so much better. Mother Nature had taken in her child and tended to me with her caring ways. I felt light and rejuvenated when I headed back indoors. Now, I was a ready to have a great Saturday.

  1. I love the healing power of nature. Often when we’re most exhausted, just going outside and letting the sun warm our skin can revive us. Such a beautiful, poetic slice.

  2. I love your opening poem and how you close explaining your experience. It’s amazing how Mother Nature can improve our mood. I definitely need to invest time into yoga. I’m very inflexible so every time I’ve participated, I’ve felt like a fool. Perhaps I should just do it on my own by watching YouTube video or something. Your post has me reconsidering the importance of having a yoga routine. Thanks for sharing and lovely poem!
