Opening my mailbox to see a large white envelope… what could it be? I don’t remember ordering anything.
I take the large white envelope into my kitchen and rip across the perforated line. Reaching in- I pull out a winter hat, a sticker, a magnet and a postcard. YEAH- my swag has arrived! A smile breaks across my face while reading a handwritten postcard recognizing meeting this February fitness goal. I feel almost as joyful as the day I actually finished it.

In the beginning of February, 2 of my friends and myself signed up for a February Challenge- 15 Miler along the Erie Canal. During the month, the goal was to walk a total of 15 miles. I wanted to sign up because I needed an incentive to get outside given the frigid temps and 42 days in a row of snow. I am grateful for my crazy friends who agreed to join me.
Let’s just say we walked in all types of weather- well except warm. It was sunny, blustery, snowy, sleeting. The Erie Canal path could be pavement or a sheet of ice. You never knew what you were going to get on any given day. It added to the adventure.

The best day of the challenge was on a day when the sun was out and it was 30 some degrees, however, it felt like -10. The three of us bundled up and decided to go for it. The time flew by while we were chatting and laughing. We actually walked 3 miles! It was quite a workout and I was sweating during most of it.
My friends kept me inspired and committed. If they were showing up then I needed to, too. My goal was to stay more active in February and committing to this challenge made it happen. I am healthier for it.
Proud to say- I am a 15 miler!

Congratulations! That’s some sweet swag, but your writing makes it clear what the real prize was.

How wonderful to find some inspiration for being outside in the cold! Connecting with friends–and completing the challenge–are worthy goals.
