The season of rowing is ending-
One last session on the canal
Eight rowers in unison
Gliding over water
Sunshine to twilight
Blush, violet, peach,
grace the sky
BEAUTY
stuns
It was the last row of the season. It is getting darker earlier and the Erie Canal will soon be drained. I had mixed emotions as I pulled into the parking lot- sadness that this weekly time outside with a wonderful community will be ending but also a bit of pride in myself that I had rowed through the entire outdoor season.
While waiting to get on the water, a cool Autumn breeze stirred my bangs and sunshine basked my face as it peeked out from the edge of a dark gray cloud. It was a beautiful Fall evening. I didn’t know the best was yet to come.
Evening progressed and twilight fell over the canal. Our boat was gliding over the black water as we moved towards the periwinkles, blushes and tangerines. Quiet surrounded us. It was a moment to soak in and remember. Nature was glorious.
I wish I had my camera to capture it but I did not. So I needed to remember it in mind. Bringing it forth in words makes it concrete and captures what my mind may forget. Oh what a splendid Fall evening!
