I was just looking through my journal for the past year. It contains highs, lows, joys and griefs. Then I realized, that I never appreciate the ordinary day. Well, in all honesty, an ordinary day deserves a standing ovation. An ordinary day offers calm, peace, routines easily followed, no shake-ups or let downs. On these days, the stress levels are not elevated as everything is just doing okay. So I am going to embrace this ordinary Tuesday evening and hope it stays ordinary through the darkness of night. (Yes, I am writing my Wednesday Slice on Tuesday night).
Ordinary observations of this day:
O ‘clock for waking was the usual 6:30
R adio playing my positive morning music to get me going
D rive to work was smooth
I nbox had the normal amount of messages, no emergencies
N ext small group arriving right at the scheduled time
A rriving home under the sun’s watchful gaze
R elaxing by reading a chapter before cooking dinner
Y ammering with my husband about our days
Honestly, I am so grateful for all of these everyday, normal, ordinary things.

I think we all need ordinary, uncomplicated days like this every week. Teachers have so much on their plate. Add to the teacher day, all the family chores including pets, household duties, children, and friends. I so enjoyed reading your post and found it very relaxing. Thank you!

I love an ordinary day where there are no emergencies and peace seems to prevail. A whole day of ordinary doesn’t often happen but I love the way your poem celebrates ordinary moments.

Thank you. I need to stop and appreciate them more often.

You are right, ordinary days are so often overlooked and underappreciated. After experiencing the covid shutdown and all of the other crazy things going on, I’ll take an ordinary day just about anyday!

So much extraordinary can be found in the ordinary.
