FINALLY- there is enough snow! I have been waiting all winter to be able to go snowshoeing and today was the day.
I honestly can’t believe that it took until March for us to have enough snow for this to happen. Living in Upstate New York, we typically have an abundance of snow each year- 90-120 inches. However, this year has been so different. We set a new record 343 days without more than 3 inches of snow! The last time this happened was 1952. It has not felt like winter at all and I really missed it.
About 6 inches fell from last evening to this morning and as I glanced out the window happiness spread. I can FINALLY go snowshoeing! I grabbed my shoes and poles from the garage and headed off to the closest park. I was walking along a creek in a winter wonderland. The snow-coated trees stood out against the bright blue sky. The sun made the whitened ground so bright you just had to wear shades. I so enjoyed soaking up this moment of true winter.
I’m not sure if this will be my only foray into winter’s wonder this year but it is possible since Spring is only about a week away. I never thought I would miss the absence of snow this much but I do. Maybe true winter will return next year??? Fingers-crossed.
