Calmed and Renewed

From harsh fluorescent light …………..to subtle filtered daylight

From boisterousness halls ………………to quiet chair

From rush, rush, rush …………………………to plant yourself and be

From racing, circling thoughts…………to a tameness of mind

From unconscious breathing …………..to intentional filling and releasing

From shoulders raised to ears ………….to muscles releasing, letting go

From tense, stressed, annoyed ………..to relaxed, calmed, renewed

During the month of March, my school institutes Wellness Wednesdays. Each Wednesday after school the staff is encouraged to partake in an activity of your choosing to support your wellness. Some of the activities include a 10 minute guided meditation, 15 minute yoga, shooting hoops or walking on a nature trail. So I tried the 5 minute meditation yesterday.

All I have to say is wow! In that quick 10 minutes, the school day melted away and I felt so calm and relieved. My colleagues all felt the same way. Honestly, I never thought that 10 minutes could make that much of a difference. So today, I came home and followed an app for a 10 minute meditation. Again, the school day seemed to just slip from my mind. So I have decided to give myself the first 10 minutes of being home each day to meditation. I know that my husband will enjoy dealing with a less stressed me!

  1. What a great idea – Wellness Wednesday. I purchased the CALM app. I use it more for the sleep stories to help get rid of the thoughts preventing me from drifting off to sleep. Your post reminded me that it has so many mediations to choose from. I might just try meditating in the car before I leave the parking lot of the school because my husband gets home before me.

  3. I like how you mimic your experience from elements causing stress to their opposites. It sounds like you have a good community to encourage self-care that you can take one step further. Those small actions make a big impact. Thanks for the reminder to take some time to get still and quiet.

  4. I love your writing. The poetry part was such a beautiful representation of what it is like to let it all melt away at the end of the day.

And kudos to your school for promoting such a cool self care idea.
