In the Presence of Denali

A Postcard Poem

Cloaked peak
Highest mountain
Clouds burned away by sun
Awestruck by your full majesty
Speechless

Address: Denali
Highest Peak in North America
Alaskan Mountain Range

This summer I had the privilege to travel to Alaska. It was the fulfillment of a dream of mine. One of the highlights of the entire trip was seeing Denali in its full majestic glory. All of the mountain is only in view 30% of the time. So needless to say, I was very lucky because I witnessed its snowy white peak 2 days in a row!! I am grateful that I had this opportunity in my short time in Alaska. It is a memory that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

The postcard poem was a new form for me. I wrote a cinquain poem- five lines with 2, 4, 6, 8 and then 2 syllables per line.
