Tea + Books = Great Night – Day 26 SOLSC

When I saw the advertisement for a book launch at my favorite tea bar, I knew I had to go. I could not resist a night that brought together a few of my favorite things- tea, books and friends.

Walking up to the door, there was a sign that said CLOSED for a private event. I was excited already but now it began to bubble even more knowing that I could enter. There was a small gathering of chairs before a display of books and a banner bearing the author’s name. Since my friend and I were one of the first ones there, I was able to talk with Elizabeth Everett. This is my third time meeting her as she is a local author. I was honored when she said that she remembered meeting me from a talk she gave about her writing and publication process.

This event was for the launch of her new book, The Love Remedy. I really enjoyed her first series The Secret Scientists of London, a mix of historical fiction, romance and strong women. I knew that this new book was going to find its way into my hands by the end of the night.

In the new book, one main character is an apothecary who offers herbals and tinctures to customers. The tea bar worked with the author to offer choices of herbal teas that matched the ones mentioned in the book. There were 5 drink options on the menu. I selected Happy Heart tea which is organic white tea, organic green jasmine tea, organic peppermint, organic rose petals, and organic lavender. Receiving my tea after its steeping time, my friend and I settled into the front row to listen to the author.

The author shared with us the importance of romance as a genre. It offers love as its theme and always a happy ending. During the story, there are trials and tribulations that need to be resolved so the ending brings a soothing happiness to the reader. Since happy endings don’t always happen in real life, these books offer this special gift to the reader.

After the presentation, I wandered around browsing through tea selections and books. Of course, I purchased the new book and with the author being right there, she signed it. I also purchased two teas- Happy Heart tea and one of my favorites, Moroccan Mint. Bonus- when I went to cash out, I had a $10 loyalty reward waiting to be used.

What a great night- tea, books, friends and a good deal!
