After the long school day, I was able to head into my backyard and do some yoga. It was sunny and just about 60 degrees. It was a bit cool but I decided to place my mat in the path of the sunshine and bask it its rays.
To me there is such a difference between doing yoga indoors or outdoors. I prefer my mat outside- in my backyard, on a beach, in the woods. I just feel more connected and grounded to our earth.
Trying to relive my shavasana from this afternoon so you can experience it too.
Lying on my mat facing the sun,
eyes closed-
enjoying the dance of shadow and light across my eyelids.
My skin warms as the rays illuminate my arms-
warming up tight muscles to loosen
while a cooling breeze tickles over my bare toes.
Abdomen expanding with a deep inhale-
fresh air floods my body bringing the hope of Spring,
exhaling releases the pent up stresses of the day.
My body rests heavy
as my arms, back, legs sink
into the welcoming embrace of our Earth-
who accepts my weighted fatigue
exchanging it for its natural gift of healing.

I felt myself releasing stress as I read your words. Just beautiful.

I wish I had a backyard. I suppose nothing stops me from driving to a grassy spot with my mat and re-creating the zen you describe here. This is a poem of profound grounding. Thank you!
