Tanka Poems for Gratitude: Join My November Journey

Throughout the month on November, I plan to write a tanka poem each day expressing my gratitude for an object or an event that happened. I am hoping this will make me see the world more positively this month and let gratitude be the focus of my daily observations. I’m also trying to do a quick sketch to accompany my words. I am no artist so be kind in your thoughts when you see my drawings. (Also this week, I included a photo and an AI created image on the day I wasn’t feeling well.)

A tanka poem is a 5 line Japanese poem. It is based on syllable counts- 5,7,5,7,7.

Here are my Tankafuls (thankfuls) for the first week on November:

Nov. 1st

Window seat breakfast

At Roux with Greg and Alex

Saturday delight

Nutella toast was sweet, but

Time with Alex is sweeter!

Nov 2nd

Ten peeled, sliced apples

Plus cinnamon and sugar

Homemade applesauce

Aroma of autumn fills

My home with comfort and love

Nov 3rd

Been drained all day long

Spouse feels exactly the same

So what’s for dinner?

Takeout comfort food-yummy

Nutrient boost for my soul

Nov 4th

Exercise my right

through my choice, my voice, my vote

Ballot cast today

Democracy in action

All must treasure THIS freedom

Nov 5th

Zero-zero start

Serve, bounce, return, third shot drop

Stay out of kitchen

Weekly pickle time with friends

Social exercise- the BEST!

Nov 6th

Words across a page

Pull me into fiction world

Just one more chapter

Escaping reality

Hours slide by- WHAT’S the time!

Nov 7th

Red tomato sauce

Cup-n-char pepperoni

Stretchy mozerella cheese

Friday night dinner

Weekend arrives in a box

Join me in writing Tankafuls this month! I would love to read any that you write. Please share them with me.
