Day Bookended with Serenity: Morning Mingling, Sunset Serenity

I was so lucky to bookend my day with kayaking.

My morning began with paddling with a dear friend on a smooth canal. We rowed side by side sharing stories of our lives- what our children are doing, plans for the rest of summer, life happenings over the last few months. It was wonderful to catch up on each other’s lives. Being on the water, just added a layer of peacefulness to the experience. After returning home, I realized how much joy starting my day with this brought me. I wish I could start off on the water with a close friend each and every day.

Then, in the evening, my husband and I set off for a sunset paddle on the windy, wavy waters of Lake Ontario. We needed to put effort into each stroke which allowed the work stress to sink into the depths of the dark water. Upon reaching a spot in the golden waters of the sunset, we just floated side by side soaking up the beauty of the sky changing colors. We watched until the top curve of the orb sunk behind the tree line. Those moments of just being and observing filled each of us with serenity for the night. What a wonderful feeling to carry home.

I was so lucky to bookend my day with kayaking.
