I thought I set out on the trail alone
some solitary time under blue sky and sun
But then I caught your whisper,
welcoming your company.
Your whisper floated through the chilly air
even though my eyes couldn’t find your presence
Under the cover of ice and snow
you flowed creating a
syncopation of plunks and gruggles.
Rounding a bend in the trail,
your voice called out louder-
hear me, see me!
My eyes rested upon
your clear stream
flowing around mounds of melting snow
adding more notes to your water melody.
Arriving at a bridge crossing your breadth,
I paused for a moment
to admire the grandeur of sunlight
gracing your ripples
adding a feeling of magic
to your burble, bubble, swoosh
-fullness of your rolling life.
Glad I heard your initial whisper
to journey along side of you-
your musical companionship brought
so much joy to my steps.
Much better than any solitary walk.

The whisper of nature…too loud to be ignored. Love the words “water melody”. A constantly changing tune as the water flows.

What a gorgeous photograph! Your piece drew me in with sensory details and made me feel as if I were right there with you on this solitary walk.

I love how you don’t reveal the companion right away, but rather hint at it. Great word choices — whisper, melody, plunks and gruggles! So good!

Thank you. It took some thinking to come up with the right words to try to describe the water’s sounds.

This is lovely! Your description of your walk is so vivid even before I watched the video. And your word choices for the sounds of the stream are perfect!

I absolutely love this. One of my favorite things is to walk near running water. So your surprise companion being that just made me smile! I loved all the ways you used to describe it. These especially: “syncopation of plunks and gruggles,” “adding more notes to your water melody,” “adding a feeling of magic
to your burble, bubble, swoosh,” and “your musical companionship.” Maybe because I am a musician! I loved all the musical reference. But they also just made the stream sound so whimsical.
