Honestly, I don’t like to draw attention to myself. I don’t like to be in the spotlight or have it anywhere near me. I prefer to hang out in the background-quietly, unnoticed- as I take in all that is around me. Much more of an observer than a performer.
I am pushing myself to step out on my comfort zone and put 2nd year Slicer before my teaser each day. I know this could bring new readers to my blog. Having people read your writing is the point of putting your words out into the technological universe-right?
Then why does posting those 3 little words fill me with such anxiety.
Maybe because I don’t see myself as a real writer?
Maybe my thoughts really won’t matter to others?
Maybe it’s my old fear of never wanting eyes on me?
This community was welcoming last year and so supportive. I learned a great deal about writing and that is why I chose to return for another year. I am starting to make connections with other Slicers. I truly value this community of teachers and writers.
Because of you- your posts, your comments, your community- I will push myself to write those words so I can learn even more.

I love the photo you used to emphasize that you do not like the spotlight. I don’t either. I like remaining in the sidelines and writing quietly. When people ask me what I do. I say, “Teacher.” Just recently I have been saying “Teacher and Writer.” It sounded funny to me at first. But it helped me put intention to what I really love – writing. I enjoy your posts, keep writing, you are a writer!

Thank you for the support. I need to start saying writer for what I do. It is what I really love.

I think it’s great to let us know you’re a second year slicer. It makes me want to come on and encourage you but also let’s others know you’re not a rookie either. First year slicers may be encouraged by your posts having been in their shoes just last year.
Keep up the great work!

What a great topic for a slice! I’m so glad you put those words there so I could discover your blog, but I also understand not wanting to be in the spotlight. I appreciate that this community is so warm, welcoming, and supportive. I always feel very encouraged as a writer.

Oh yes, this community is warm, welcoming and supportive. Without that, I don’t think I would put my writing out there. Thanks for the support.

Those questions to self about why (or why not) to do this resonate even if I’ve been blogging for a long time. You are a writer and you are enough. Keep going. It matters.

We will keep pushing you until you believe that you are a Writer. (Notice the capital W.) You are, you are, you are!
Nice to e-meet you yesterday on the Zoom. I’m so glad you are stepping out of your comfort zone and putting those three words in your teasers!

It was wonderful to meet you yesterday as well. I loved connecting with everyone and seeing faces to match with writing. I will keep repeating… I am a writer. I am a writer.

Writing is something that shows you in a very vulnerable way. I understand that feeling of not wanting all eyes on you. But, when you share your Slices you are a real writer & your thoughts do matter to every single person who clicks your link.

This is my 11th year of slicing and this challenge and I still feel the same way. This community was and is so accepting and encouraging with their comments. I understand the feeling of not wanting others to read what you write because you feel it is not worthwhile while still hoping someone will read your blog. You are a writer and you have lots to say! Keep doing it.

While some members of the community come and go each year, the connections are what continue to bring me back. As with any writing group, they help us to identify as writers, and we both know how important that is!

Thanks for putting yourself out there and for expressing the doubt that we all feel at times. As I said to a friend and colleague tonight, “Imposter syndrome is real.”

I can certainly relate to all that you wrote and appreciate you naming it and helping us all see and understand it. I look forward to reading more posts from you this month.

Welcome back for your second year! I have been slicing since the first year, and I still question whether I have anything to write, whether anyone will want to read what I post. As you’ve discovered, however, this community is so great! Glad you’re here!

It was great meeting you yesterday at the Zoom meeting. I am not sure if I mentioned I was 10-year veteran of this wonderful community of writers. I hope your readership builds to make you feel the warmth and acceptance of others. Hope to see you again and again this month. -Carol Varsalona
