Brown crunchy leaf barely hanging on.
Brisk wind makes it shiver, loosen.
Does fear rise in its being?
Knowing that it’s release
signals end of life.
Grasping the branch
but forced to
let go-
die.
Bright
gold leaf
celebrates
it’s budding to end.
Elegant color
emblazons the treetops.
Does fun rise in your being?
Knowing it’s final adventure
brings freedom it’s never known before.

Looking out the window on this 2nd day of Autumn, I noticed leaves were already starting to fly on the wind. It made me wonder- as leaves are getting ready to release and let go, do they view it as fearful or fun.
This wonder led me to think about the colors leaves wear at the end. Do crunchy, brown tipped leaves view it with fear and hold on too long because of it? Do red, gold and orange leaves view it as fun and a celebration of freedom thus embracing the adventure to the end?
Maybe leaves have something to teach us about approaching our final days….

You have used the perfect poetry form to explore an original idea. I definitely interpret your poem as an exploration of philosophy about dying. I’ll try to stay golden.
