The truth is a midnight drum
in that it
beat, beat , beats
through my unconscious mind.
Conjuring into a rhythmic vision that
dance, dance, dances
me through its candor.
Awakening, the beating strain
repeat, repeat, repeats
in my brain
bringing truth to the light of day.
I was in a notebooking funk over the past month or so. I love to write and doodle in my notebook but was struggling to come up with ideas each day. I puzzled around for awhile trying to figure out ways to shake up my practice a little bit. I attended a great writing summer camp through Teach Write and was exposed to new ways to engage with writing. I set up a weekly schedule (have not stuck to it religiously)…
Monday- Play a Solo Writing Game
Tuesday – Write Slice of Life
Wednesday- Select one of the Teach Write daily writing prompts for the month
Thursday- Thoughts of the day
Friday- Weekly reflection- 5-4-3-2-1
Saturday- Nature Journaling
Sunday- Write a post for my nature blog possibly inspired by Saturday’s work or daily thoughts
So this post is a combination of Monday and Tuesday. I couldn’t find my dice yesterday after searching for hours. I have chosen metaphor dice to use as my game each Monday in August. The dice push me to think differently and write about topics that I would not typically gravitate to. By using games on Monday, it gives me a fun way to start off the week by awakening my creativity in a different way.
So the truth beating through my unconscious last night must have been the location of my dice. Upon awakening, I easily found the dice in the first place that I looked.

I love this schedule so you have less to think about for the day’s writing. I used to have a schedule for my blog so that I would be consistent. Two writing teachers #SOL was every Tuesday! Thank you for this post. It resonated with me!

I have been having trouble getting started writing lately – I love the schedule idea. I’m going to give it a go. And I just ordered metaphor dice!

What a wonderful weekly schedule for writing! I have never teased apart my writing in this way; I can see where I might improve skills if I had more specific goals. Thank you for sharing!

Very interesting! I love the variety. I was at an online workshop this weekend where an editor encouraged us to use different genres,
or even POV’s for our stories. Really neat to revisit your writing with a different lens.

I love metaphor dice and the places they take me, in my thoughts, my perspective, my writing. You do the same here – – that midnight drum that doesn’t let us sleep….especially on nights like tonight, the night before school begins tomorrow…..I hear the rolling of the drumsticks now……
