“WHAT DOES THE EARTH ASK OF US?”
I had the privilege of attending a presentation tonight by Robin Will Kimmerer, the author of Braiding Sweetgrass. Reading her book this summer opened my eyes to viewing how humans interact with the earth in a different way – reciprocity instead of just taking, taking. taking. She said many insightful things but this one question of hers stayed with me and is rolling around in my brain. So I am interested in your answer to her question- what does the earth ask of us? Please leave your answer in the comments.

Ooooh, what a powerful question! I just read Beth Scanlon’s post about spring break and she asked us what we are doing to restore ourselves over break. I was so struck by that word choice, and then I came to your post, and I think the earth is asking the same thing. For us to restore ourselves, and restore it. To take care of ourselves in a way that takes care of it. To not waste its resources while also not burning ourselves out. What a perfect coincidence that I read your posts in this order. I have heard great things about this book, and I’ve always had a strong interest in Native American history and culture… will have to bump it up my to-read list!

I highly recommend reading it. I read it over the summer and it gave me a new way of viewing on interactions with all things on this planet. I hope you feel restored after break.
