Star Joy

Beaming smiles and giggles of accomplishment

Today was an example of why I so love working with children in the primary grades. I had drawn a star on a student’s paper and the student asked how to draw one. So I walked through it step by step- I drew a line and then the student followed on her own. When she finished her first one, she squealed with joy, ” I CAN make a star now!” Then she continued to make stars all over the back of her paper- big, small, straight, and crooked. She hugged me for showing her how to make one. When our time together was over, she skipped down the hall and couldn’t wait to show her friends that she could make a star. Her joy was certainly contagious. Each time I make a star now I will look at it differently- hoping to recapture the wonderment she found in creating her first one.
